CSA FAQs
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Ahead of each growing season, local farms offer shares of their harvest to members of the community they serve. Before any food is grown, CSA members "buy in" to the farm with their purchase of a farm share. This purchase helps offset the operational costs including seed purchase, staffing and infrastructure that weigh heavy at the start of the year. When the farm begins producing food, CSA members benefit by receiving a weekly portion of each harvest. Every share will come boxed and ready to be enjoyed by you, your family and friends.
As the farm thrives, the community that supports it does too. The farm will honor the commitment of its CSA members by providing the highest quality produce as it comes into season.
Why buy a CSA share?
"I want to shop more local." How many times have you said this to yourself or to friends? It's a noble goal but long work days and life commitments get in the way. A CSA share is one-time purchase that supports local year-round. Break free from your weekly shopping list rut, eat what's in season and expand your home-cooking repertoire. When you eat food that comes from your neighbors you're not only supporting local growers, you're reducing your carbon footprint by bypassing the produce that is shipped in from all over the world to the supermarket. While the full price of a CSA share may seem overwhelming at first, the value that comes from a weekly box of local, fresh produce can go a long way in reducing your grocery bill. Know who grows your food, eat healthy and support your community.
What comes in my CSA box?
Each week, your box will packed with produce at the peak of its season. Early summer, expect a number of cool-weather crops that we enjoy growing like spinach, arugula, carrots, radish and bok choy. As the weeks warm up and long-season crops mature, summer staples like cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini and eggplant will become available. Our favorite season-long salad mixes and head lettuce will also be featured throughout. You can pair your items together in a recipe or have them star as a main course dish at your next meal.
What size share should I buy?
We are offering two size shares to our CSA this season: a full share and a half share. Each share size will include five to seven items in them. The half share will just include smaller portions. For households of 3 or more, we recommend a full share. For smaller households of 1-2 people, we recommend a half share.
What if I'm away on vacation one week?
We encourage CSA members who cannot make it to pickup on a particular week to arrange for a family member or friend to pick up your box in your place. It's a great way to share local produce with your loved ones. We will not offer reimbursement for weeks when shares are not picked up.
What if I'm running late and miss pickup time?
Life happens. No worries. Please contact poststfarm@gmail.com to arrange a time the following day to pick up your share.
